Crossing into Nicaragua

We file the mandatory migration pre-check for the whole group. Nicaragua keeps the right to accept or refuse any visitor, and we cannot intervene in that decision. Because we file early, we have the official answer 7 days before travel in case anyone is refused entry.

Airport pick-up and La Ceiba

Group pick-up at either airport, San Pedro Sula (SAP) or Palmerola (XPL), and transfer in our private A/C minibus to La Ceiba. Check-in at Hotel & Hostal Guacamayos and welcome dinner #1 at Ahari GastroBar.

Day2

Ferry to Utila, diving starts

Transfer to the dock for the ferry to Utila. Settle in at the dive school's lodging and start the theory module of the international Open Water course.

Practice and the Utila reef

Confined-water skills and your first dives on the Mesoamerican Reef System with certified instructors.

Open Water graduation

Final open-water dives at greater depth, Caribbean marine life and your international diving certification.

Day5

Ferry to La Ceiba, waterfall and rafting

Morning ferry back to La Ceiba and a full breakfast in town. Then a 6-hour adventure in the Cangrejal River valley: a short waterfall hike (only 20 minutes) in Pico Bonito National Park and whitewater rafting on the river's rapids. Dinner #2 at Ahari GastroBar.

Day6

Cayos Cochinos by boat

Boat to the Cayos Cochinos marine reserve: snorkelling over untouched coral, turquoise water and a traditional lunch in a Garífuna community. Back to La Ceiba for farewell dinner #3 at Ahari GastroBar.

Day7

International road to León, Nicaragua

Breakfast on the road and departure in our private minibus to Nicaragua, with the migration pre-check already handled by Guacamayos. Arrival in historic León and a night of rest.

Day8

Cerro Negro volcano and León city tour

Morning hike up Cerro Negro and a board ride down its volcanic sand (volcano boarding). In the afternoon, a historic city tour of León: murals, churches and the famous white domes of the Cathedral Basilica.

Day9

Slow morning in León, sunset in Managua

A free morning in León for coffee or crafts. At 1:00 PM we leave for Managua (arrival 2:45 PM, hotel check-in). At 4:30 PM, the Puerto Salvador Allende waterfront for sunset over Lake Managua, music and restaurants.

Granada, the Isletas, Catarina and Masaya lava

Two nights in the same Managua hotel, so no bags today. 10:00 AM leave for Granada (50 min) · 11:00–12:15 private boat through the Isletas de Granada · 12:30–2:00 PM free time for lunch · 2:00–3:15 PM colonial city tour by horse carriage · 3:45–4:45 PM Catarina lookout · 5:15–6:30 PM night lava in the Masaya Volcano crater · 7:15 PM back to your room.

Border fees: entry, exit and municipal fees at the Honduras and Nicaragua borders are paid by each traveller at the window. Lunches and dinners not listed, and tips, are not included.
